Rock Out with Guitar Hero On Tour: Modern Hits for Nintendo DS

My kids and I have long been fans of Guitar Hero for PlayStation so we were thrilled to find out that we could now enjoy the game on our Nintendo DS systems.

Guitar Hero On Tour: Modern Hits for Nintendo DS is a follow-up to the On Tour and Decades games previously released. The games are SO much fun and very addictive. There are three different versions to choose from: Guitar Hero on Tour, Guitar Hero on Tour- Modern Hits, and Guitar Hero on Tour - Decades.

Thanks to Mom Central, we were able to review the Modern Hits and Decades games. And we love them so much, I'm planning on purchasing the third game, Guitar Hero on Tour. I really, really love the songs available on that one..."Spiderwebs" by No Doubt, Rick Springfield's "Jesse's Girl," and they even have an old song my husband dedicated to me when we were first dating more than twenty years ago- "Pride and Joy" by Stevie Ray Vaughan.

You can view the set list for all three games here, but I'll give you my favorites from Decades and Modern Hits.

Decades

~"One Way or Another" by Blondie
~"CrushCrushCrush" by Paramore
~"Any Way You Want It" by Journey
~"We Are the Champions" by Queen

Modern Hits
~"Sweet Sacrifice" by Evanescence
~"Paralyzer" by Finger Eleven
~"Where Are We Runnin'" by Lenny Kravitz

Each game includes 28 songs in all, and they're radio-edits so you don't have to worry about exposing your kids to mature lyrics.

I was worried that it might be difficult to play Guitar Hero on a Nintendo DS console, but the creators really knew what they were doing when they designed these games. There is a strap that attaches to the DS with four, colored keys to press in accordance with the notes shown on the DS screen and I had no difficulty getting used to it, and neither did my kids.

There are stickers for players to personalize their "guitar" and a guitar pick stylist to "strum" with. You can also play with your regular Nintendo DS stylus if you prefer.

You can choose your band name, guitarist, outfit and guitar. As you earn cash at each of the five all-new venues you tour at, you can go into a shop to purchase more guitars and clothing.

My kids love to play every chance they get, but especially in the car. Portability is the biggest advantage of playing the games on a Nintendo.

The most excitement for my kids, though, comes from the multiplayer, head-to-head mode (requires two games and two Nintendo DS consoles). Here they are battling out to "Unconditional" by The Bravery:

The wireless feature not only allows mutliplayer modes, but it also allows for song streaming.

Other key features:

~Choose your path to stardom – For the first time ever, players can choose how they take their band from the underground music scene to worldwide rock stardom with the exciting non-linear gameplay progression in Guitar Hero On Tour: Modern Hits.

~Do it for the fans – Guitar Hero On Tour: Modern Hits delivers an all-new gameplay experience with Fan Requests. By completing Fan Requests players build their fan base and open up new challenges to rock-out like never before including jamming to an entire song in Hyperspeed, battling it out in a Guitar Duel with active Bomb Notes or whammying every single hold note in a song.

~Rock out anytime, anywhere – Fans can take the Guitar Hero experience wherever they go with Guitar Hero On Tour: Modern Hits. The Guitar Hero™ Guitar Grip™ mimics a guitar fret board and fits seamlessly in people’s hands to deliver the same core gameplay that defines Guitar Hero.

~The party never stops – Song streaming features allow players of Guitar Hero On Tour: Modern Hits and its predecessors, Guitar Hero: On Tour and Guitar Hero On Tour: Decades, to share songs via local wireless connectivity. Players can rock out together in multiplayer modes, jamming to tracks from all three versions of the game.

Guitar Hero On Tour retails for $49.99 and is rated “E 10+” (Everyone 10 and older – Lyrics). Be sure to visit GuitarHeroOnTour.com for more information and enter to win all three Guitar Hero On Tour games!

Keds Green Label

Green is the new black. But black can be very green as well.

Confused? Click here and check out the cool, new, black Keds Green Label Canvas shoes I received for review.

Keds Green Label shoes are both fashionable and friendly to the environment. Here are the features that make these shoes so special:
  • 100% Organic Cotton
  • Laces are made from 100% recycled water bottles
  • Recycled rubber outsoles (20%)
  • Non-toxic, soy and vegetable-based inks and dyes
  • Nickle-free eyelets
  • ISO-9001 certified factory and recycled insoles

There are two styles: Willow Lace Up and and Meadow Mock Toe. Mine are the former and I love them! They're extremely comfortable and I love the design inside the shoe and on the sole. It reads, "The world is at your feet. Tread lightly and change your footprint. Every small step makes a difference. Be true, Keds.'

My favorite aspect of the shoes' design is how they make the laces out of recycled water bottles. How cool is that?! Such a perfect way to keep those bottles from filling up our landfills.

The colors, made from non-toxic dye, are gorgeous! I chose classic black, though, since it goes with almost everything.

Check out the Keds Green Label Website for more information and/or to purchase these fabulous shoes. You can also enter to win a $250 shopping spree while you're there. Good luck!

Guest Post and Giveaway: To Do List? Make That a "To Be" List

Please give a warm welcome to author Mindy Friddle, who is guest posting today for So a Blonde Walks Into a Review as part of a Wow! Women On Writing tour.

There's also a fun "Seedy Characters" giveaway in celebration of Mindy's latest book Secret Keepers, so be sure to read to the end!

************************

Are you a list maker? I am. I write and rewrite lists on stickie notes, deposit slips, notebooks, and--on rare occasions, when I'm feeling organized--I sign up for some new free software that promises to help you prioritize. It's the kind of task master system that sends you emails to remind you what to do everyday.

Such ambition for compulsive organizing and prioritizing is--for me anyway--fleeting. Thank goodness. Now if I could get an email task list every morning that said: drink coffee and listen to the birds, write half the day, garden, take a long walk with the dog, have a drink and a leisurely home-cooked meal with your family, read for hours, repeat next day....well, I'd sign up for that one.

In this frenzied hyper-connected digital world, it's easy to get caught up in the undertow of doing, doing, doing and forget being. I try to remind myself that it's the process that counts, not so much the end result. [Yeah, I know. Insert eye rolling. I can hear you laughing. But notice I said, try to remind myself.]

So many of us are in the habit of just trying to get through something, to get it over with so the real fun begins, wishing away the minutes, hours, days, years. I've noticed too many of the "what's on your mind" statuses of my pals on Facebook say, "Can't wait until Friday." Usually that's on a Monday!

But all this stuff...It never ends, you think. Paying bills, dentist appointments, taking the critter to the vet, the kids to practice, job responsibilities or looking for a job, haircuts, groceries, volunteering, buying birthday presents, and on and on. But dig up an old list in your glove compartment or some dusty drawer, a list you made a year ago, or five or more years ago, and you see all the tedious stuff that's passed, floated on down the river, that debris that seemed so important at the time. "Life is what happens to you while your busy making other plans." John Lennon said that.

About a year ago, I decided to try to live more in the "now," and that meant to remember to give my full attention to whatever I am doing now. That's pretty much the opposite of what the busy world demands--multitasking, anyone?-- but I find doing one thing at a time makes me more productive, anyway.

When I write, and when I'm outside, in the garden, it's easy for me to "lose myself"-- in a good way-- and escape the frantic tick-tock of time and deadlines, and access a real sense of peace. The zone-- some call it-- when your focus quiets the mind. Not so easy in a traffic jam or at a family reunion!

But it helps to start small if you don't want to sweat the small stuff. And noticing just how often your mind chatters--planning, fretting, remembering, scheming-- is the first step. "To live is so startling it leaves little time for anything else." Emily Dickinson wrote, which always reminds me to pay attention to the smells, sights, and sounds around me right now, no matter where I am.

I was in a crowded parking lot recently. Hot asphalt, grumpy people, jumbled shopping carts, car exhaust. I looked up at the lazy, beautiful clouds and there was a rainbow! No one else around me noticed. It was faint, but you could just see it if you looked up, and you were paying attention.

Collective Soul Is Back

Collective Soul is back, but to be honest with you, they never really left my little world. I LOVE their music and have never stopped playing it.

In fact, it wasn't that long ago that I twittered/blipped the song "Under Heaven's Skies" as a dedication to my husband. That seriously has to be one of the most romantic songs ever!

So you can imagine how happy I was to receive an email notification from Twitter telling me that Collective Soul was now following me! Click here to check out their Twitter account.

I quickly burst into song ("Shine"), to which my husband begged me to stop (not because of the song, but because I was totally butchering it, lol).

Collective Soul is not only going to be coming out with more fabulous music soon, they're also going on tour! Click here for more info. Sadly for me, DC is not one of the stops, but I'm hoping that might change.

You can follow the latest news from Collective Soul here, as well as follow their blog here.

And be sure to check out this article on how much Collective Soul appreciates their fans and the lengths they go to to show it. Pretty impressive! While you're there, read all about the contest they're holding at the end of the post. But don't hate me because I'm totally rooting for myself to win. :)

Laundry Made Easy - Purex Complete 3-in-1™ Laundry Sheets Giveaway

There is one room in my house that I will not allow others to see...my laundry room. No matter how many loads of laundry I do, there are still piles staring back at me waiting to be washed. But doing laundry has gotten a little more easy thanks to Purex Complete 3-in-1™ Laundry Sheets.

Purex® Complete 3-in-1™ Laundry Sheets are a load’s worth of detergent, softener and anti-static all in one powerful sheet. You simply drop the sheet into your washer and you're done! No messy measuring of laundry detergent.

When your clothes are ready to be dried, just transfer the sheet into your dryer and it serves as an anti-static, softening sheet.

I was able to review the Spring Oasis scent ("A nature-inspired fragrance with fresh citrus and flowers, like a clean morning breeze.") It is heavenly! My clothes are not only clean and soft, but they smell wonderful. And I love that all I have to do is grab a sheet and throw it in the wash. It saves so much time and space.

Purex Complete 3-in-1™ Laundry Sheets come in three scents and are available in two package types – a Starter Kit (1 Dispenser + 20 Laundry Sheets) and a value Refill Pouch (24 Laundry Sheets).

The Starter Kit includes a refillable Dispenser that makes it simple to protect and access Purex Complete 3-in-1™ Laundry Sheets. Once you have the Dispenser, simply purchase the money-saving Refill Pouch to fill the convenient Dispenser.
